New Article: Soaking

Cultivating intimacy with God was something I never new you could do. I was aware of people who were intimate with God but I was never sure how they got there. I was surprised (and somewhat horrified) to find out how easy it is. If you're looking for a simple way to increase rest and intimacy with God, have a gander at this.

Fear is Not Your Friend

Fear is Not Your Friend

Fear is one of the nastiest things out there. It's easy to be sucked into the false comfort it offers only to find that we're living according to its rules. Kick out fear and welcome in freedom. Read the whole article.

A Tale of Two Sauls

If you do not believe what God has said about you, every other person you meet will be a threat to your identity.

New article about the importance of believing what God says about you. There's also an audio download if you'd like it.

Outsource Your Genius

From a new article I just posted:

As pastors and leaders, there’s a real temptation to hold onto control; to have everything run by you, but in reality that’s one of the worst things you can do.

Lessons I learnt from being with John Arnott. I should make that topic a series.

Awkward is a Great Place to Move on From

I've studied the lives of the brilliant people around me. I then wrote an article on one of the things I noticed that they all had in common.

We hate stumbling, fumbling and mumbling and want to move to a place where we are experts, where we are successful and where we find ourselves constantly winning. But the truth is, most of the time, we have to pass through awkward to get to awesome.

Conclusion: there are very few accidentally awesome people.

The Great Paradox

Busy people won't want to read this:

One of the least sought after things in life is one of the things Jesus most wants to give. Many Christians, especially those who draw their livelihood from ministry, ignore this thing completely in an effort to achieve things they think hold greater value.

Rest is one of the great paradoxes of the kingdom (along with dying to live, giving to receive, humbling yourself only to be exalted).

DVD EXTRAS (OR HOW I PREPARE A SERMON)

I figured I had to start somewhere, so I started with what I love.

I love movies. One of the things I love almost as much as the movie itself is the little extras you often get on DVDs and Blu-Rays. I love watching the behind the scene sections, the interview with the director and actors, how they did the stunts, etc - perhaps it’s the nerd in me - but I love seeing how stuff is done.
And so when I come to think about starting to write on this site, I wonder, “What would I like to read about on a pastor’s blog?” and I came to the conclusion that it would probably be the same sort of stuff: the behind the scenes of emanate or the behind the scenes of pastoral life.

First post on the new site. Hope you like it.
